First up a very useful link to the Bob Martin's pet finder service.  

Bob Martin Petfinder is a type of tag designed to help maximise the chances of returning your pet to you should they have gone astray.  All help is most welcome  should you be in the nightmare situation of having lost your pet.

This is a free service, you can register up to 3 pets and they will send you out tags for your pet's collar.

I am registered as a 'helper' with them and receive email updates of any dogs lost or stolen in my local area.

The Dogs Trust currently have a nice freebie for dog owners. It costs around £20-£30 to get your dog microchipped at the vet. However, you can currently have it done for free at one of their Rehoming Centres. There is a link at the bottom of their page about Microchipping that takes you to search for your nearest centre. You then just contact the centre directly to book a mutually convenient time. Once your dog has been microchipped, please consider making a donation, however small, as the Dogs Trust is a charity.
